Wellness and Arts

To support education of the mind, body, and creative spirit, WGE students receive regular instruction in technology, music, art, and physical education in addition to the reading and math curricula. Led by a Glacier National Park ranger, students also take a variety of scientific measurements and make observations at a site on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River throughout the year, monitoring for change.

WGE students participate in whole-school, weekly 1.5-mile walks, swim lessons, ski lessons, an annual bicycle ride, and a Missoula Children's Theatre performance each year as resources allow. (Photographs of past years' performances can be found at the school's Facebook page.) Other educational field trips and special events are scheduled as opportunities arise--see the Student/Parent Handbook for a typical list.

In addition, Montana state law requires that "Every Montanan . . . whether Indian or non-Indian, be encouraged to learn about the distinct and unique heritage of American Indians in a culturally responsive manner." Funding provided by the state helps WGE students to engage in a number of activities each year that support this goal, including field trips and cultural activities. Learn more
